Explore Catonsville with New Mural Tours!

Catonsville’s vibrant public art scene just got more accessible!
Our town’s creative spirit is on full display with two new exciting ways to explore its murals: a 3D virtual tour and a guided walking tour.
Developed through a partnership between Catonsville Rails to Trails (CRTT) and local artists, these tours showcase 18 murals that celebrate the town’s history, culture, and community.
The virtual tour offers a bird’s-eye view of Catonsville, letting you “fly” down to murals via interactive hotspots. Each stop provides details about the artwork, historical figures, and the stories behind the pieces.
For a hands-on experience, the walking tour invites you to stroll through town and admire the murals up close. QR codes will soon be added to each mural, offering instant access to rich context and artist insights.
These projects highlight how public art fosters community pride, beautifies neighborhoods, and attracts visitors. As one local resident shared, “It’s a fantastic way to connect with our town’s identity—every mural tells a story”.
Whether you’re a history buff, art lover, or just curious, these tours offer something for everyone. Check out the virtual experience and instructions for the walking tour here!

Small Business Spotlight: Local Instructor Brings Elite Mindfulness Training to Patapsco Valley

James O’Neill, a licensed psychotherapist turned local meditation instructor, discovered the power of mindfulness while working as a counselor at Sheppard Pratt. Experiencing physical conditions related to chronic stress, he attended a mindfulness training for therapists.
"That's when I realized just how much stress I was carrying in my body," James recalls. He found that meditation could help reduce stress in his life and manage his blood pressure, allowing him to use "meditation instead of medication in this case."
Now, he teaches mPEAK (Mindfulness Performance Enhancement, Awareness & Knowledge), a neuroscience-backed program developed at UC San Diego and used by Navy SEALs and elite athletes. The course combines mindfulness with neuroscience, showing how practices can impact brain function. "Mindfulness training positively impacts our interoceptive awareness, and specifically the Anterior Cingulate Cortex, which controls motivation, emotion, and motor control," James explains.
James has seen positive results in his clients. One physician reported being able to "turn the flame down like on a gas stove" when stress levels spiked, gaining greater control and awareness in high-pressure situations.
For everyone interested in drawing upon this proven practice to achieve personal and professional goals, and get to know our local meditation instructor, I highly recommend James’s latest podcast episode on Spotify and Apple.

Patapsco Valley State Park has a unique history tied to the Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC), a Depression-era program that employed young men for conservation work. During World War II, the park's CCC camp became the nation's first Civilian Public Service camp for conscientious objectors. These individuals, who refused military service due to personal beliefs, performed similar conservation tasks as CCC workers. Today, visitors can still see remnants of this era, including a stone fireplace from the CCC's recreation hall in the park's Avalon Area.

That’s it for this week’s view. Please reply to this email if you’d like to share an upcoming event, highlight a local business, or share inspiring story.
