A Taste of History: Faidley’s Seafood Revives Catonsville’s Plymouth Building

New scaffolding caught my eye as I passed the historic Plymouth Wallpaper Building in Catonsville last week. It's exciting to see this local landmark transforming into the future home of Baltimore's iconic Faidley's Seafood.

The Plymouth Building, constructed in the early 1900s, has been a cornerstone of Catonsville's heritage. Originally home to the Plymouth Wallpaper Company, it later served as a grocery store before housing various businesses and eventually falling into disuse.

Now, the 100-year-old building is being meticulously restored. Faidley's is creating a 22,000-square-foot seafood paradise, preserving key historical elements. The original pinewood floors from the grocery store era are being refurbished, and exposed beams from the 1880s will be incorporated into its new design.

The renovation team has uncovered fascinating historical details during the process, including old wallpaper samples and vintage machinery, some of which will be integrated into the new space.

Despite pandemic-related setbacks, the project is now in its final stages. Catonsville residents can look forward to enjoying Faidley's famous crab cakes in this beautifully repurposed space by this summer!
